People aged 18-24 are one of the most influential groups in the UK. There are 5 million across the country but right now, one in four have no voice, because they don’t vote.
The Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA), is working in partnership with the London Mayor, the Commission for Racial Equality, the Association of London Government, the Electoral Commission, Operation Black Vote and the Minister for London, to run the ‘Get London Registered’ campaign. The campaign is designed to increase voter registration and raise public awareness for the May 2006 local elections.
Creative company ebb&flow, are the team behind the elements of the campaign designed to increase voter registration amongst the 18-24 age group. The ebb&flow multimedia campaign includes posters, radio ads, a micro-site (www.1824collective.co.uk) and the stunning, 5 Million Strong, music track & promo.
There are nearly 5 million people aged between 18 and 24 living in the UK. Yet this group are more likely not, to register to vote. They often feel they have no say in mainstream British life, are not taken seriously and have no voice.
In London alone, 550,000 eligible voters are not registered, this is the equivalent of three London boroughs or eight constituencies not having a single voter. in the capital, the young, poor, black and other ethnic minorities are less likely to be on the electoral register and therefore unable to vote.
The 1824 Collective campaign message is that, collectively, 5 million young people do have influence and a voice.
One of the most powerful aspects of the campaign is the 5 Million Strong, track. With it, history is being made: a new generation of vocalists and MCs are taking a stand and their lyric says it all: “You’ve got to stand up and be counted in this world,5 Million strong, we can’t be wrong. Born to lead this nation, united now as one,Black, White, Asian, we’re one nation”.
The 1824 Collective are: vocalists - Anushka, Ash, Alex Holland, JXXX and Angel J; MCs - L-Man, Corrisse, Baraka, LST, Lavish, Baby Chan, J2K and Haze, along with Beatbox - Lian Hart.
The first stage of the 1824 Collective campaign will be the posters and micro-site, both of which will be available from February 3rd.
