NAAR submission to the government's equalities Green Paper
Measures against racism must be strengthened not weakened
The government's Discrimination Law Review Green Paper consultation ‘A Framework for Fairness’ ended on the 4th September. The DLR is set to reshape the equality legislation landscape for a generation, therefore it is vital that the forthcoming bill contains measures to significantly strengthen and extend current inadequate rights and powers against continuing discrimination and disadvantage. The government's proposals in the Green Paper were extremely weak and undermined some of the gains achieved as a result of the anti-racist campaigns of the 1990s, particularly by the family of Stephen Lawrence. NAAR proposed some important amendments.
