Ban fascist marches

Despite this government supposedly strengthening legislation on incitement to racial hatred, the authorities, notably the police and Crown Prosecution Service have varied their interpretation of these new laws.

For example, whilst the Greater Manchester Police rather belatedly stopped the National Front marching in Oldham, the BNP was allowed to march in Bermondsey despite protest to the Metropolitan Police.

This was particularly insensitive as the march passed an area that has seen an increase in racist attacks including the near-death of a Turkish resident. Although few BNP supporters actually attended the march, there was an increase in racist attacks after they dispersed.

LAGCAR has always campaigned for a ban on fascist propaganda, whether it is the modern day black shirts swaggering on the streets or the promotion of these parties by giving them party political broadcasts in the media during election campaigns.
