Picture Perfect Diversity

Photographic Competition

The National Assembly Against Racism with the public services trade union, UNISON, invite you to enter a national photographic competition.

photo-of-carnivalToday's multicultural Britain is the result of centuries of migration of people who have made this island their home for an array of reasons. Some have escaped persecution; others have sought a better life, while some were invited to rebuild Britain after the devastation of the Second World War. Britain's diversity is represented in its broadest sense with people from different faiths, cultures and ethnicities.

However, Britain's multiculturalism has experienced a sustained and unprecedented period of attack from sections of the media and politicians.

Those of who value its positive impact on our society are voicing our support to assert the fact multicultural Britain is a reality that cannot be wished away.

NAAR and UNISON's Picture Perfect Diversity photography competition is attempting to gather images that illustrate multicultural Britain in its everyday expression. We welcome entries from amateurs and professionals alike to share with us your pictures of multicultural diversity at its best.

The participant must be the original author of the participating photograph. The images can be colour, sepia or black and white. All photographic techniques are allowed.

The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers. Multiple entries (up to 3 photographs) are allowed per photographer.

Where photographs include images of people, the participant must have sought the permission of the photographed person to have their photo published in a number of media at the discretion of the organisers.

All entries must pay due regard to legal parameters. Any photograph deemed to be in breach of this rule will be disqualified at the discretion of the organisers.

A panel of judges will be established by the organisers to select the successful entries. The panel's decision will be final.

The deadline for entries is 30 September 2008. The successful images and photographers will be notified by email on 8 October 2008.

The best images will be showcased in One Society Many Cultures campaign materials and on the web site.

The organisers will acknowledge the photographer when the image is used but no payment will be made for the use, or reproduction, of the image. Subject to their agreement, a brief biography of each photographer will appear on the web site, and the best images will be press released to the media.

Successful images will be display at UNISON and NAAR events at their discretion.

Entries should be sent to NAAR, Picture Perfect Diversity Competition, 28 Commercial St, London, E1 6LS or emailed to: info@naar.org.uk in high res jpeg format. Please ensure hard copies are sent in protective envelopes as we cannot be responsible for damage.
