Racism is on the rise with an increase in racist attacks across the country. In May, the fascist BNP more than doubled its councillors around the country.

This joint fringe will explore look at the issues that have contributed to this climate, including the negative debate around asylum and immigration, the rise in Islamophobia, the attacks on multiculturalism, the clampdown on civil liberties, the near abandonment of the fight against institutional racism and attempts to establish a backward equalities agenda that reverses the gains of 40 years of struggle for race equality. The fringe will look at ways in which the labour movement, party members and anti-racists can make an active stand to drive back the rise of the far right, defend asylum seekers and migrant workers, celebrate multiculturalism and tackle racism in the workplace and in society.
