According to the BBC website, ‘In the night garden’ is supposed to be a thoroughly modern interpretation of a nursery rhyme. Unfortunately the company the BBC has contracted to make its merchandise has decided to replace the only brown character with a white toned doll.
A spokesperson for the NAAR said:
“It looks like the producers of the dolls have reverted to racist 1950s attitudes of what would be appealing to Britain’s children. It is reminiscent of Ford’s disgraceful advert where its black workers were photoshopped to be white.
The BBC should pull the contract with the doll producers immediately”
