Coalition to Defend Freedom of Religious and Cultural Expression speaks out against dishonest and damaging Policy Exchange report

14/12/07

The Coalition to Defend Freedom of Religious & Cultural Expression today spoke out following an investigation on Wednesday’s Newsnight programme, which called into doubt evidence used in the recent Policy Exchange report, "The Hijacking of British Islam".

Bruce Kent, chair of the Coalition said:
“The damage done to the reputation of Muslim communities and good community relations by the recent dishonest Policy Exchange report is a very serious matter.

Its production merits a police or other independent public inquiry. If such an unjustified report were issued about the Catholic or Jewish community there would be public outrage and parliamentary action.

Honest surveys, which produce uncomfortable results, are part of the democratic process. Dishonest ones are not and are entirely unacceptable.”
